i Believe

iBelieve“Inspired by the world’s obsession and devotion to the iPod, iBelieve is a replacement lanyard for your iPod Shuffle. It is a social commentary on the fastest growing religion in the world. And it only costs $12.95.”

I guess if you want to mark yourself as a Christian, this will do it. Although, along the way, you might want to do it actively too. If you want to show them what you believe, try:

  • acts of service to show your concern
  • actively listening to understand
  • not thinking of yourself more highly than you ought, but in humility
  • show respect to others, despite differences

Being generous to others may be a greater social commentary than a plastic cap that symbolizes that I’m significant because I’m on a winning team and you aren’t. Food for thought.

Technology on Campus

The college campus today is way different that five or ten years ago. When I graduated in 2000, only a handful of students had cell phones. Now, it’s an oddity if you don’t have one. An article from Newsweek, High-Tech Hot Spots examines some of the recent trends of how college students use technology today.
The average student:

  • uses a cell phone
  • has a laptop or desktop computer
  • listens to an iPod or other mp3 player
  • has an entry in facebook
  • will check syllabus and hand in assignments through the web

Adobe Acrobat

If you would like to print out a newsletter editions from Sept 2005 on, you will need to make an adjustment to print correctly because the file is designed to be printed on 8.5″x14″ (legal sized) paper. You should be able to print to 8.5″x11″ paper by using the scaling option in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Here’s what you do. Open the file. Select File -> Print. In the Print dialog box, in the Page Scaling section, select “Fit to Paper”. This will shrink the outer edges of the paper so it will fit on whatever sized paper you have in your printer tray. If for some reason there isn’t a Page Scaling option in your print dialog box, try downloading the most recent copy of Acrobat Reader.
